Top 10 Greatest Music Albums

It was strange to me that as an avid music listener for over 35 years, I had trouble filling this list. As I began, I realised that even my favourite artists don't always have albums that show off their best from start to finish, that sometimes, people I would place slightly lower in the hierarchy of greatness have greater whole albums. It meant I had to decide what to do. Bark Psychosis should be on this list, but Hex is a bit up and down. Prime New Order should be here, but their early 80s stuff is as much on singles and Power Corruption and Lies is hit and miss, so I chose the very slightly lower class but non-stop brilliant later period Technique instead. What to do with The Beatles, who I love but more as a band of great songs than great albums? Rubber Soul and Revolver are terrific but don't feel like albums, to me. I considered The White Album, cos that has a real album feel, but there's some real cack on there - it doesn't deserve a place at the very, very top. Stevie Wonder - Talking Book and Innervisions are my favourites but both have weak moments, to my mind. I found myself short of candidates. A list of my top 10 artists, maybe 20 would be easier than this. So, what then? I could write a list with 100 albums, which would probably turn into 200, but what for? Life's too short. This is a list.
