They sound like a guilty pleasure, but most critics I respect love them, so, no guilt. The music is certainly a pleasure. (The exception is Christgau, who called them "faeries" who were in the "aura business", which is pretty funny).

Cocteau Twins are among the most unique artists I've recently found. Her vocal harmonies are absolutely amazing, even though the lyrics are hard to understand and don't make much sense (it took me a while to figure out that she actually sings in English). With that being said, the two highest rated albums, Treasure and Heaven or Las Vegas, are dream pop classics, full of breathtaking atmosphere and beauty. The rest of their discography is kinda forgettable, but then again, not many musicians are able to maintain a flawless legacy.

Possibly the most criminally underrated artist of all time. Treasure and Heaven or Las Vegas are both masterpieces and should be the template for textural guitar, vocal melody and harmony, and songwriting excellence.

This class act has seldom been replicated or reprised, and among the few bands that have tried so, they don't inherit the very spiritual essence that makes Cocteau Twins so unique. CT are not perfect on every album of course, but they have so many brilliant works to showcase, each of which is a different type of dream; for instance, Treasure feels like a dark and gloomy dream, Heaven or Las Vegas a sweet dream, Head over Heels a devilish dream!
Oh and music aside, don't you find the artworks of their album covers aesthetically bewitching? They're pure art from my perspective!

Liz has one of the most stunning and influential voices in music history. Without them there would be no MBV making them more influential and just plain better.

Brilliant band. It's so sad that so many people haven't heard of their music it's so blissful and magical. Heaven or Las Vegas is their most stunning work as it sounds like a living dream and Treasure is a magical masterpiece that sounds like it's been buried at the bottom of the ocean for a 1000 years. Genius.
