Following the dominance of electronica on "Kid A / Amnesiac", many were relieved to hear the (partial) return of a more traditional band instrumentation. But in truth, this is no return to "the Bends" - or even "OK Computer" but instead we find Radiohead in a more spontaneous and playful mood seemingly less worried about making a single coherent statement. The result is a little uneven and a bit of a mixed bag, but nonetheless worthwhile and always interesting.

Second batch of songs recorded at the same time as "Kid A", this album has a darker feel but is somehow less coherent than its predecessor. That said, it opens strongly and "Pyramid Song" is totally sublime in every way possible.

Following the introspective "King of Limbs" and the subsequent four year gap many were fearing Radiohead were fading from view. But then, in a typically unpredictable fashion, they released this beautiful and perfectly formed set.
