A bad-ass dark EDM-reinvention? Yes, but what matters (to me at least) is the songwriter's at times gobsmacking knack for pop hooks, a catchy chorus, sensitive and clever lyrics that not only stand repeated listenings, but demand it.

A meditative, literary, unexpected indie-folk left turn, out of the blue. A beautiful, rapturous suite of inter-connected songs that is worth attentive listens. Ps: and repeated listening brings a lot out of it. Masterpiece?

A second surprise album in a row, 5 months after "folklore"! Same vibe, just as beautiful (maybe more immediate to enjoy), without being a rehash. She owned the year 2020 like no other music artist.

The continuation of what she had been doing, with big commercial success and recognition, since her debut, with more stylistic sidesteps and, crucially, a real consistency in the general quality of the songwriting. In other words, this is the best of its kind (teen pop turning grown up).
