Top 18 Music Albums of 1979 by mrmcrook

What a year. Top half all outstanding. The lower half all great albums but hard to put in any definitive order. Very even standings.

This was the album a mate lent to me when it came out that introduced me to the musical leanings and way of life I was to become. Once heard, there was no turning back. Hooked forever into the world of hard rock and metal. It has held a place in my heart ever since hence will always remain a favorite. I've never gotten sick of it and love it every time I listen to it. [First added to this chart: 04/08/2022]

When this came out, everyone had it and it was thrashed to death, specially 'Another Brick In The Wall'. So I chose not to like it as it was to commercial and I thought I was to cool to like what was popular. So it was only many years later when it had been forgotten that I had a decent listen to it and realized what the hype had been about. Now I love it to bits and listen to it often and those who thrashed it back in the day are over it. Ignorance can produce bliss. [First added to this chart: 04/08/2022]

UFO are the underdog gods. I discovered them on a Heavy Metal special on TV back in the day. ('Let it Roll'
off this album it was) During the Schenker years they put out a string of mind blowing albums. This is the ultimate showcase of tunes from a band that should of been the giants they deserved to be.

Fantastic UK punk. It comprises the 8 singles they released between '77 & '79, six of which were released as singles only, plus the B-sides which are just as good. Hence I don't really count this as a compilation. Up-tempo melodic punk, not the angry Oi punk.  It's a fucking great album. Top notch I say.  One I would happily recommend. Theoretically, this is the first album they made. Before the classic 3 Amigo's line up. It's just that it was released after they'd made a name for themselves with there other early albums. It's quite a way removed from what they become. 'Motorhead' & 'Iron Horse' being the only two tracks which feature Lemmy's raspy cigarette laden vocals, the rest being a lot more mellow from what I knew. But after a while the whole album grew on me. Now it sits among my favorite, 'Leaving Here' & 'Lost Johnny' being outstanding tracks. Worthy to have. 03/24 [First added to this chart: 04/08/2022]

Fantastic album. They were original in sound and style which made them one of a kind. White boy punky reggae rock. Gotta love those bass rhythms 01/25 [First added to this chart: 04/08/2022]
