Too me (and most critics) Back in Black is AC/DC's best hour. Mutt Lange perfected the band's sound while the Young brothers hooks were stronger than ever. Brian Johnson's best vocal performance in his career and I think its one of the best in rock history. The adversity of having to change singers at a pivotal juncture and producing their best album ever only makes Back in Black more sturdy in my eyes.

Bon Scott's best AC/DC record. Highway to Hell is the band's breakout record. Mutt Lange's first producing credit with the band. The raw sound of the early days may be tamed a bit slightly, but any song on this album is among the band's best.

I hold this record in a bit higher regard than most fans. Following up Back in Black is an impossible task and For Those About to Rock does a solid job of it. The songs may not be as strong as Back in Black, but the band sounds as big as ever. There are a lot of underheard gems to be heard on this album for causal fans.

Another of the band's most underrated records. Powerage does a bit of a better job of capturing AC/DC's trademark live sound on record. This album doesn't have a lot of recognizable tracks for newcomers, but its a lean, hard rocking time that I seem to appreciate more and more with age.

AC/DC's best live album. The Bon Scott years suffered from an inability to capture the band's live show on tape, so If You Want Blood showcases the band during probably their peak as performers. Most of the renditions that appear on this album stand up better than the original studio versions. Its one of AC/DC's most energetic releases.

This version of High Voltage is technically a compilation, but I'm focusing on the North American releases. Pulled from the band's first two Australian albums High Voltage was North American first taste of AC/DC. Several tracks on this album are standouts of the Bon Scott era. TNT and It's a Long Way to the Top have become classic rock radio staples over the years.

Let There Be Rock is often considered a strong moment in the band's catalogue. Several songs are staples of the live shows, but they were perfected in a live setting. Let There Be Rock is very raw, but doesn't quite showcase what the band were capable of.

AC/DC's first self-produced album and the start of their commercial troubles in the 1980s. Flick of the Switch is a pretty raw, rocking good time now. I'm sure it seemed like a logical move to the Young brothers after Mutt Lange's increasing control over a more mainstream sound. I've seen this album gain a bit more respect over the past few years. I think its one of the more underrated records.

Dirty Deeds is the weakest Bon era album in my opinion. The title track is a hit now, but the album didn't even get a release in North America until 2 years after Bon's death. The best songs on this record are improved greatly during live performances.

AC/DC live captures the band on their tour for The Razors Edge, which was probably their biggest to date. I have a very soft spot for this live record and I think DC are in fine form here. For some this would be the first chance people had gotten to hear Brian Johnson singing some of Bon's originals and I've always though he did an excellent job. The extended addition includes some great lengthy jams and some lesser known tracks, but the single disc version is a nice little sampler of some of the biggest songs. This album holds the best performance of Thunderstruck ever recorded.
