*With Heaven On Top* is like sloggin’ through a gabbling stream of plastic trees, whittlin’ bark off anything that’ll give, and grumblin’ under your breath about how many more you’ve gotta get through. Bryan’s voice drags along like a tired farmhand after a week of muckin’ out the barn — earnest, scratchy, and stubborn as a mule. ‘Runny Eggs’ and ‘Appetite’ chew on old regrets like a goat on stale hay, while ‘Bad News’ saunters by, lazy as a hound in the sun, testin’ how much sap the trees will surrender before complainin’. Then, just when you think it’s over, you’re thrown into a hoe-down barn dance with your future spouse, reenacting spinster antics in the clumsiest way imaginable, leavin’ you scraped, sticky, and knowin’ full well you wouldn’t do it again. Even the quieter bits — ‘Plastic Cigarette’ or ‘You Can Still Come Home’ — stink faintly of smoke and sawdust, remindin’ you that honesty don’t always come neat. By the end of 25 tracks, you’ve survived the forest, the stream, and the barn dance, and you’re ready to collapse in a chair with a jug of something strong, thankin’ the good Lord it’s over.

Way off his debut in terms of quality, this sounds less like a triumphant return and more like a bloke who's spent too long admiring his own reflection and forgotten where the bins are kept. The production is sleek yet sloppy, all brushed chrome and tasteful menace, but Rocky wanders through it like a landlord doing the bare minimum, occasionally flashing the old wit and bite before retreating back into vibes and posture. Where LIVE.LOVE.A$AP felt hungry, messy and alive, this feels oddly domesticated, technically competent, fashion-forward, but emotionally undernourished. There are moments of spark where he remembers how to sound dangerous, yet they're buried under a lot of polite flexing and half-interested bars that suggest comfort has dulled the edge. It's not a disaster, just a reminder that style can't do all the work forever, and that even the coolest house on the street starts to smell if you keep ignoring the gutters.

U2 drop a second EP that is completely different in tone, style and substance from the first, leading to a much better listening experience. The Irish quartet decide for this batch of songs to modify their early sound from 1980-84, featuring great drumming, groovy bass lines and some of Edge's best guitar riffs this century. The songs are joyous as only U2 can be and I found myself caught off guard by the quality several times. That's not to say everything hits - Bono's lyrics are very hit or miss, Adam steals the bassline from Taxman for Easter Parade and I'm not sure what the hell is going on with the final track - but I had long since given up hope U2 would make anything that recalled the sound of their glory days. Emerging from the depths like a sweaty U‑Boot that’s been trapped under too many tons of water and bureaucracy, Krushers Of The World smells of nasses Hundefell and old engine oil. Kreator’s thrash credentials are obvious, but this album is a klaustrophobisches Monster of clichés, so thick you could chew them like rubber rations. The riffs try to bite, but feel like damp rope; the choruses scream for stadium approval while sounding like the crew is arguing over who left the Kartoffelsalat in the bilge too long.
“Tränenpalast” is the only track that actually pokes its periscope out of the sludge, surveying the abyss with sharp, cinematic menace. It thunders through the sonar haze while the rest of the album squabbles in mid‑paced grooves and half‑hearted hooks, like sailors debating which rope to throw overboard first. The title track stomps like a leviathan with a hangover, sonar pinging off every clichéd riff, and yet even it struggles to escape the claustrophobic, sweaty hull of mediocrity surrounding it.
You respect the Maschinenbau of the craft, you admire the years at sea, but mostly you want to fling the whole U‑Boot into the abyss and never hear the klang of its propeller again. In short: I do not like this album. It is a feuchte, stinkende, überhitzte U‑Boot of overcooked riffs, lumbering through familiar waters with all the menace of soggy boots. Boycott it if you value sanity, breathable air, and the smell of dry decks.
