Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.1/100, a mean average of 80.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.0.

This album appeared to me out of nowhere and I love it. I like shoegaze. I'm not sure why but the sound, the atmosphere it creates, it's all so comforting. And yet at times it can be terrifying. The duo of Dan Barrett(Giles Corey) and Tim Macuga makes for a thrilling adventure from beginning to end. Once the album starts we are introduced to the song, "A Quick One Before the Eternal Worm Devours Connecticut". The track name alone lets everyone know they are in for something special. The album proceeds to get darker and produce heavier sounds. The vocals are at first a little hard to get into, but once you really hunker down and listen, you understand how big of a role that plays into the completion and tone of this album. The atmosphere that is created when any song is played on this album just engulfs you.

Droning textures, hopeless ambience, dark echoed vocals drenched in misery, and eclectic attitudes are all things that just work on Deathconsciousness. It's everything I love in a well done record and there are few bands that can pull it off. Excellent.

NIN meets Joy Division meets Swans. The result is one of the most intimate, angry, sad, and beautiful records I've ever heard. The only track I tend to skip is Who Would Leave Their Son Out In The Sun. The Big Gloom, There is No Food, HFS 40k, and I Don't Love are probably in my top 100 songs of all time. Earthmover is in the top 10.

Mother of God, Earthmover. No other song embodies how much I desperately want to die sometimes more than this song. It's exhausting to listen to.

After many positive reviews that I've read about Deathconsciousness , I had great expectations for this album... It turns out that this album is good but not extraordinary. Well, there are some strong emotional ambient songs like Bloodhail, Hunter but other tracks are weak and not significant in the concept of the whole album.

Moral of the story, I should not read reviews before listening to an album...

Favorite tracks: I Don't Love, Bloodhail, Earthmover
Less favorite tracks: Telefony, Waiting For Black Metal Records To Come In The Mail
