Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.1/100, a mean average of 77.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

Solid enough debut for LCD Soundsystem, with a few really great songs. They would do much better in their subsequent material, though.

Only album I can vaguely call danceable or enjoyable. Still though, don't play in front of the hoes... or anyone with a feeling for rhythm. The 808 cowbell pattern done with a real cowbell is the most hipster and cringy thing I have ever encountered in my life. And to add to the shameless rip-offs of this band: "Never as Tired as when I'm Waking Up" is too similar to "Dear Prudence" by The Beatles. Yeah I know everyone steals and it's probably an hommage, but when I really go like "hey that sounds like" and immediately find where I know it from is a clear line for me. The bass line at the end and guitar outro are also extremely beatle-esque, they've added nothing of their own to that song.

Echoing the thought that this is James' most forgettable effort, but it had a massive impact. Losing My Edge in conjuncture with "Echoes" basically brought dance-punk back from the dead and that's no small feat; it takes a record of certain quality to bring a whole genre back and this can certainly stand up to that.

The first LCD album is a tremendous explosion, and what shines through the most is how much James Murphy fucking loves music.

A good album just a bit too long with a few misteps imo. I own it and enjoy it from time to time. Great band ! MEZ

The singles are good, good, good, but the rest of it is so-so-so.

Good album... with some great songs.

I wouldn't call it a dance record, it has some dance elements but this is not a dance record. Critics name this a "Dance music' 'cause the rhythm its at the front and the repeated tempo and pulse, but I think is a lazy way to define gender.

I hear post punk, electronica, noise, experimental, synth pop.

Took dance music to a whole new level, somewhere it had never really been before. Murphy's grasp of rhythm is better than anyone else's, other than Unit Moebius and that makes this debut irresistible. 205th best album of the 2000s? Ridiculous. Top 10 at least.
