Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.2/100, a mean average of 79.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.0.

This was just the beginning.
Perfection was a few notes away. There are no flaws, just the lack of total brilliance that would mark Santana's next few releases.

A very good album, with moments of excellence brought about by the inspired guitar playing. 9/10.

Excellent album with a foot clearly in the psychedelic camp. Guitar work is superb.

The guitar work on here is simply phenomenal and it really blows you away every time you hear it. That is the main selling point for this record as it is made the centrepiece for the music and everything else seems weak in comparison to it. Songs like Jingo, Persuasion and Evil Ways best display his quality and they are the songs that drag me back to this album every time. The percussion does have some great moments as well and the piano work on Treat is simply sublime. However, the rest of the instrumentation could be better and it sounds a bit plain. A few songs don't really hit for me as well and I find myself switching off during those tracks. Overall, if you want an example of a true genius on a guitar this is a brilliant album for you and while the rest of the instruments are still decent they just fade into the background in comparison, which holds the record back for me as it could be built upon better. It is still a great record though and deserves a lot of praise.
