Many decry this as Santana going pop, but that is both unfair and incorrect. The great non-mainstream Afro-Caribbean rhythms are still there in force and the musicianship is as tight as ever. It may have more mainstream listenability than the typical Santana album, but it in no way forsakes that Santana uniqueness. While it may be more arena-rock, Alex Ligertwood's vocals make the perfect companion to these excellent songs, and the dude has great range with magnificent clarity.
