Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 75.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.1.

Joe Jackson's magnum opus, a tight set of songs. My favorite LP of his (and usually the consensus pick for his best album by most). Really dig the Latin-esque flavors he throws in, like on 'Target' and 'Cancer'. And of course, the one-two punch of 'Steppin Out' to 'Breaking Us In Two' is killer. The thinking man's new wave
FAVORITES: Breaking Us In Two, Steppin' Out, Target, Cancer (Edited)
An infectious buffet of jazz infused soul. Sparkling arrangements and A grade musicians throughout with steppin out, real men the highlights. Would have been a treat to catch him live. (Edited)
Classic album. Solid songwriting, and funky 80s pop beats. Steppin' Out is unbelieveably catchy and will be in your head for the next week if you hear it. I've found out that this was actually nominated for a grammy for Record of the Year. I think it's stood the test of time pretty well.
Urbane collection from Joe Jackson, who was stretching out from his new wave roots. Works very well, and there are some real gems: “Steppin' Out,” “Real Men,” “Breaking Us in Two,” “Slow Song.” Curious choice to start the album with the three weakest cuts, though.
Very strong album that leans heavily into Jackson's piano skills and jazz background. Steppin' Out, of course, is classic. Another World is a very catchy intro, and the entire second side is very good. Definitely worth exploring.
