Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 74.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.4.

“(1) I always mentally filed Beyoncé alongside artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran--highly successful mainstream pop stars whose music doesn't appeal to me much at all. This is more out of ignorance than anything else. I've never really listened to Beyoncé. And while there's a long section in…”

I've never been that interested in Beyonce before, but when I hear James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Father John Misty, Ezra Koenig and Jack White were all working on the same album I'd listen to it if the lead singer had tongue twice the size of their mouth and sang in Aramaic.

If there was ever a Beyonce album for me to like its this one, and I do. I'm not that bothered with the lyrical content to be honest but the songs are very well produced plus there's an awful lot of influences and variety on this thing. Very enjoyable to listen to, definitely worth checking out.

One of the most overrated album of the year. A bunch of expensive producers/writers/musicians doesn't make a good album.

I got turned onto this album by a friend, who insisted it was wonderful and it would do away with my scepticism. He was right.

A fantastically varied, breathless album. The lyrical content is really considered, and often left me quite moved. I don't think there's a weak track here: from the angry, unrelenting "Don't Hurt Yourself", to the bare-boned beauty of "Sandcastles", or the barnstorming "Freedom", Beyonce knows how to use that voice (and isn't afraid to be imperfect, which considering her vocal talent, is an ultimate sign of modesty and artistic drive).

Among the best albums I've heard this year.

I've never been a Beyoncé fan but this album is freakin' great! Every track commands attention and is musically exciting and lyrically poignant.

Far and away her best album, surpassing self titled by a mile. The shorter tracklist, varied track lengths, assortment of featured artists, visuals and production all combine for an enjoyable, well executed experience.
