If I want to be devil's advocate, I could see where Bobby is coming from. Some artists gave off more compelling material as time went on. For me that are big superstars would be Madonna and George Michael.

Madonna had more engaging songs that went towards my taste. Especially with her 05 record Confession on The Dancefloor.

While George Michael had Older and Patience. Two records that I think are some of the best albums of the 90's and 2000's respectfully.

Also I do know from venturing in this site that Bobby didn't like either Prince's Purple Rain or Tom Wait's Rain Dogs. Now with Rain Dogs I can't get into it. I always start it and then like 30 seconds later I want go to something else. While Prince I do enjoyed the hell out The Beautiful Ones but I'm not the craziest fan of him.

To be more honest people like Rick James and Roger Troutman were way more impressive in funk music.

But that is my interpretation of the situation. And I will leave it at that.

Good thinking. Rather than saying who I disked, if you were to look at my charts these people would be conspicuous by their absence.

Yeah that is true. I should have kept a hush hush on some albums and artist.

Mercury already listed a lot of great albums from 1985, but I was going through my listened from that year, and realized how weird it is. I'll post some of those.

Hey Bobby, I looked at your charts. You really didn't like the 80's as they wore on, huh.

I know you're a Split Enz fan. Surely you have some affection for Neil Finn's band, Crowded House?

1986

Crowded House by Crowded House

1988

Temple Of Low Men by Crowded House

You like Rickie Lee Jones. How about this one?

Flying Cowboys by Rickie Lee Jones

How about this Ry Cooder?

Get Rhythm by Ry Cooder

Or Ry Cooder on this

Bring The Family by John Hiatt

While I'm selectively exploring some great lesser known albums (mostly Japanese) from the 1980s, I'm still struggling for enough data to pick a stand-out year,

I lived through the whole decade (just) but I have to confess an utter detachment with the majority of popular artists/albums on this site for the period.

I choose 1980. Because 1980 had some of the sweet afterglow of the 70s. But by the mid-80s the Afterglow was completely gone.

If you're 37, I guess you were born in 1980, and were 10 in 1990.

I was born in 1972, and my first memory of getting attached to music was when I was 10 in 1982 (apart from the limited music my family exposed me to earlier in life).

I've explored a lot of music prior to 1982 now, but my attachment to it feels completely different to the music from 1982 onward, that I got attached to as it happened.

1989

Doolittle and The Stone Roses are both among my top 20 albums, while Paul's Boutique is among my favourite hip-hop albums.
