No Shape by Perfume Genius
Usually when I hear a whiny indie voice, the whole album turns out to be a derivative and very unoffensive snorefest to me. It's how this one started, but it progressively got better on the first listen. So I thought that I warmed up to it, but obviously not, since it was a similar experience on the second listen. The second side is superior, and that run from Every Night to Sides was pretty good. I still don't really like Mike Hadreas' voice (and lyrics most of the time), but the instrumental part of the album was pretty cool. The album's best trait is that a random organ, woodwinds or Guitarrón can suddenly hit you out of nowhere. And a Weyes Blood feature is always very welcome. Overall a decent effort, better than I initially thought, although I still think some parts were boring. 6.5 or 7/10

Jack Elliott is cool old school country/folk, try that one

(pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) by Lynyrd Skynyrd

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. The three ballads were my favorites because I liked that sound the most, with the best of them of course being "Free Bird." Some of the hard rockers didn't do much for me but there were nice mixes of country, blues, and rock all across this album. "Mississippi Kid" wasn't my favorite song here but it was probably the most interesting musically. I was kind of worried this would be some forgettable blues rock like you'd hear some local band playing at 4:00 PM at a state fair, but this wasn't that at all.

m b v by My Bloody Valentine

Give My Bloody Valentine's big comeback a shot. It's nowhere near the level of Loveless, but there are still a lot of interesting sounds on it.

Attack On Memory by Cloud Nothings

You know, it's funny, I've always liked Cloud Nothings but never loved them. But I love this album, this is easily their best one I've heard. I love the sound, the loud kind of wall of sound feeling to the guitars (and speaking of which, the guitar-work is great), it's very hyper and frenetic and I really dig it. The lyrics are a little odd, but I love the sound. I kinda get why everyone has gotten psyched about their follow-ups since, though I don't think any of them compare to this one.

BBS, this is one of my favorites, hopefully it'll be one of yours too

Sacrifice by Black Widow

Definitely of its time & place, this is a slab of late 60s psychedelia kookiness that I'm sure the Manson family would have dug. But now it just mostly sounds pretty hokey. An interesting artifact of late 60s hippy dippy culture but certainly not the lost classic some would make you believe. Perhaps give it a spin just to see how off course hippy culture had gone. 🤔

Of the three 1970 releases I've checked out so far, this falls far, far below Lucifer's Friend's - s/t and Grand Funk Railroad's - Live, both of which I HIGHLY recommend unlike this.

Rocky, you're going to freak out when you digest...

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson

It's really good, and this isn't even my sort of thing normally. Lots of good options to choose from though!

========================================================================================== =

Well that's one strike for Steppenwolf666's 1970 chart especially since he had that placed number 1. Hopefully the next one is a bit better....

Steppenwolf666's Best Albums of 1970

Black Widow - Sacrifice (Grade: C. RIYL: Moody Blues)

In Expectancy Of The Monumental Awe by Vuemorph

Review: Sometimes cheesy New Age/Downtempo/Ambient that is fine for one listen, but probably not worth revisiting. Half good tracks, half stagnant tracks, but an overall average affair.

Source: I basically found this one when I got into a black hole on discogs. I think I'm one of maybe 1,000 people that's even listened to this now.

Rec: I thought Black Widow had some interesting moment, but I more or less agree with you on it. I'd probably give it a little higher score.

Go for T2 next.

Jack Takes The Floor by Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Yeah - I do dig this. I just am not sure how much. When I was in that phase where I thought the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou was the shit, I think I would have liked this even more. To say this reminds me of that soundtrack, says a lot.

2. Celestrial Stairway - acutally sounds pretty cool. With a name like that I had to check a little out myself on BC.

Metallica by Metallica

Thanks Rocky for choosing this for me to listen to. It's been an option a few times and would have been one of the first I would have chosen for myself. I've wanted to listen to this album for a long time. It was a bit of a unique experience to listen to an album where I knew half of the songs probably better than I know the back of my own hands, and not heard the other half at all. Probably half of my favourite Metallica songs are from this album. I hammered Metallica guitar hero back in the day. A couple of months ago I had a great night out at a karaoke bar and Enter Sandman was one of the highlights of the night. I probably butchered it but in my mind I nailed it. 😁 I'm giving this a 9.5/10 and 8/41 in my 1991 chart for now but I am going to listen again a few more times soon to work out exactly where it belongs in my 90's chart, and even to see if it deserves to be in my all time chart - I expect it will.

Seth Gris-Gris is a really cool album.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson

It's funny, I've never been totally blown away by Porcupine Tree. I've always liked them, but never really went crazy for them, but after this, I kinda want to give their stuff another shot. This is a really excellent album. I wasn't sure how it'd be at the start but the highlights of the album are fantastic. I absolutely love Guthrie Govan's guitar playing on this, and while a couple of the songs might fall a little more into generic prog territory, most of it is quite good. I think I need to give Porcupine Tree another go.

Purple, give this a shot:

Breakfast In America by Supertramp

This was a good pop album. I knew The Logical Song and the title track, which I didn't realize was on this album (I thought it was called The Girlfriend Song, I guess I confused it with The Logical Song). Other than those two nothing much stood out, but that's not a bad thing. It's well-written and quirky.

Saturation II by Brockhampton

I would say you should start with the first album in the Saturation trilogy Rocky, but this is the best of the three so starting here is fine too.

Celestrial Stairway by Inspired School Of Astral Music

I am absolutely baffled. This is a mysterious release indeed. Everything about the music down to the worn out cover art work and the synth textures would indicate that this is another new-agey album from the early 80s. But everything I can find online about this artist and album indicate that it was released in 2012. I don't know if this was some kind of private press that was released 30 years later, or maybe this dude just has an incredible synth collection, because, if it was recorded in 2012, then this is one of the best facsimiles of this sound that I've heard, because it totally fooled me.

Anyways, I also love when I can find a bandcamp with some fun stuff to read on it. Especially crazy New Age ramblings.

"There are various shrouded Stairways surrounding us.

The Celestrial Stairway is a visionary access point to a higher state of mental consciousness. This Celestrial Stairway leads up out of Forced Reality Consciousness (FRC) toward the calm of your own personal Lucid Realm (LR). The Forced Reality Consciousness is mostly controlled by destructive outside influences and dictated by the demands that daily life incur on our hearts, minds and bodies. Through accessing and ascending the Celestrial Stairway to the Lucid Realm, you can have complete control of your reality situation and the expressed desires of your world. You can find conclusions to obstacles you face in the FRC and can come to decisive and clear decisions. You will find that you can relax your overactive mind and focus on the things you truly want in your life.

The Celestrial Stairway is hidden from most and can be acessed through acts of meditation, astral projection, the various dream states and through the consumption of psychoactive substances.

If you are not happy, you can make your Life very different from what it is.

The one thing that can distinguish a new idea from a hallucination is if several people also believe in its total existance."
