"A spotty Hot Chip album is still a pleasant album but there are too many tracks which are really forgettable. A few tracks are still worth listening"Reply
"My favorite Orb album because it enhances whatever you're doing while listening to it but doesn't require your attention. I wish I could understand why it's ranked so low within the Orb's catalog"Reply

Especially in this album you can guess how ambitious it is just by checking the credits. This includes both the production (Kanye West, The Neptunes, Tony Pizarro, Flip, T.Mix, Nashiem Myrick among others) and the featuring MCs (Jay-Z AND Nas, that's all you need to know) and some singers, too (Kelly Price, Faith Evans and Tanya Herron). This all-star cast manages to keep the balance, on the one hand to remain faithful to the south while at the same time adding mainstream elements. By the way, I didn't mention the above to imply that Scarface depends on others to make the album work, he plays his part as it was expected, no major complaints in that department. Lyrics present some classic crime stories ("I started small time, dope game, pushin on the corner Twenty cent cook-up, fifty flippers if you want 'em Full of formaldehyde, my clothes wreakin marijuana Cops rollin up on us, my neighborhood's like a sauna Pistol-grippin, insurin won't nobody run up on us But if they do, fuck 'em, we murderous nickel-dome 'em I ain't playin no games, I'm on a mission fo' the change Motherfuck being a lame, I'm ten toes in the game - deep I can't slip, this whole world want me sleep") mixed with some religious stuff ("I been gone away from home for so long Seems like everything I try to do without you go wrong I'm confused about a lot of things, but not with my faith So I'm depending on your holy ghost to guide me the way See, I'm a sinner in the third degree Ain't afraid to admit it, 'cause I seen niggas worse than me Who am I to judge a man when I'm a man myself In the dark, trying to get me some help? I went from pawn to king, king back to pawn Doing my best to try to ease out the storm"). One issue I have with this album is consistency, I consider the first half significantly stronger than the second, and it's a relatively short album, so it's even more striking."[+]Reply

Yours Conditionally is one of my favourites, and I was a bit disappointed when I heard this one at first. I loved runner, but that was it. But now, I rate it as one of my top 5 albums of all time, and gave it a perfect score of 100/100. There is so much depth in the lyrics, the instrumentation, the movements. I love this album so much, and I think their songwriting here is completely unmatchable. There is clearly an insane attention to detail. So immacculate. Tennis fans, hope you give it a few more listens. Took me at least 10 to really start to get into it."[+]Reply

My favorite track here is probably Jay Farrar's explosive and disaffected guitar rocker "Discarded," with its bits of rollicking banjo holding the song's disparate pieces together, highlighting the desperation of the lyrics: " It's so goddamned hard to make things work / No easy way out of this one / Always someone or something to get lost in the shuffle / At least this road leads straight outta here.""[+]Reply
"I did not get the music of this band at all. A mix of Johnny Cash, Dylan, and Elvis Costello. The vocals were lazy and dreamy, but most of the songs were not very cool."Reply

Fast forward 6 years and 2018's 'Wanderer' has opened my eyes to the charms of Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall ..this is one special album
There's something old about these tracks , they feel like they have come from a bygone era but they haven't . Even the Rihanna cover "Stay" feels musty and covered in cobwebs
Sometimes the best albums have that intangible x factor where you know its great but you struggle to conceptualise why - it just is . 'Wanderer ' is one such album
One 2018's best releases "[+]Reply

Counting Crows 4th album sounds much like anything that came before. Of the four, it is the most glazed with a pop coating throughout.
Good Time, New Frontier, and Black & Blue are highlights
Good Time figures out how to do a depressing ballad without the Duritz whining
New Frontier is infectious pop and shows another side to the band. Some fans will hate it because it is too pop and happy sounding
It tacks in a little lengthy on the discometer but I think its their 2nd best album narrowly beating out This Desert Life.
The debut and Hard Candy get more spins than their other albums from me. But I stopped listening to this band after Hard Candy"[+]Reply
