I found this website researching albums that capture raw energy and passion in the hope of creating a playlist of the best albums that represent this.

I was inspired to do this by a discussion about whatever happened to the band Silverchair after their incredible debut album, Frogstomp. An album that was recorded when the members were only 15 years old! If you haven't listened to this album then check out the hit single, Tomorrow and also the track, Shade for a couple of clear examples of the kind of spirit I am referring to.

Another album that immediately sprang to mind was Ten by Pearl Jam with tracks like Even Flow, Alive and Black as stand out examples. Eddie Vedder's passionate style of singing on this album is an example of someone who is able to channel that raw energy I am talking about.

Often, artists who are able to capture this kind of sound do it on their debut album when so much of their raw talent and passion is expressed like a well that is tapped for the first time. And often, maybe due to success or the fading of youth and innocence, they are never able to fully capture that essence again.

Of course there are genres like Soul that celebrate this kind of sound in a certain kind of way and I guess what I am looking for is a soulful sound expressed in a passionate way but not necessarily limited to any genre.

What albums spring to mind for you that capture the kind of raw energy and spirit I am talking about?

Damaged by Black Flag

Hard to top Silverchair & Pearl Jam though.

Welcome to the site! Very Happy

After some further thought, I guess this ...

Fun House by The Stooges

... might work out too.

Thanks for your replies and welcome - sorry I meant to respond earlier. I hadn't listed to Blag Flag before although I was familiar with Henry Rollins. It is certainly a good example of 'raw energy' but does not capture the kind of spirit that moves me. I'll give the Stooges a listen - haven't listened to much of theirs.

Frogstomp and Ten are great albums. Both favourites of mine. I think Inflammable Material by Stiff Little Fingers is great example of raw energy and passion. Try this and if this is the sort of thing you are looking for I have more. I also second The Stooges suggestion but any of the first three albums...they all fit the criteria.

I am fan of the music you asked about, and I think the first album (for all intents and purposes) exemplifies what you are looking for. Feel free to respond and let me know if this is what you are looking for. I have plenty of recommendations beyond these.

1. RAW POWER - Iggy and the Stooges
2. KICK OUT THE JAMS - MC5
3. DAMAGE - Black Flag
4. ACE OF SPADES - Motorhead
5. SUFFER - Bad Religion

To me one of the best examples of an album with raw energy is one nobody knows (already the title of the album perfectly describes the feeling you're looking for):

When you use words like passion, spirit and soul my mind immediately jumps to these two albums.

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I...ic Monkeys

This was an obvious choice for me, since they sound so full of life and energy here. And some great street smart lyrics give it an extra raw feeling.
