Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.3/100, a mean average of 69.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.3.

With new vocalist John Bush this album made them sound like a completely different band. It eases off on the thrash element slightly and has more of traditional heavy metal sound throughout. Not bad at all, actually quite good, just very different to the Anthrax that came before this.

This is not only the best metal album of 1993, but one of the best albums of 1993! John Bush was a perfect fit for Anthrax, and lyrically they matured 100% and no longer covered goofball topics. Some people who need their ears checked said it's too 'grunge sounding'(lmfao) or not thrash enough. Listen to Room 4 One More, Sodium Pentothal, 1000 Points Of Hate, and tell me those aren't thrash songs!! This was a perfect album for a band that found their perfect singer at the peak of their career. It's just too bad it was not promoted by their label well enough for it to get the attention it deserved.

Changes of lead singer can really be dicey, but as it turned out, Armored Saint's John Bush made an excellent fit for Anthrax and they turned out a very dark and heavy album with him at the mike.
