Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.2/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.5.

I've always thought this was one of their best (if not the best) albums they did, even when I first heard it on release day in 2016. I think the consensus is that some of their fans didn't like the approach they took on this album, and non-fans just view the songs as fairly average, but to me I love a lot of this. The production is really great, the songwriting and energy are also infectious, and I have no real complaints. The first half is significantly stronger (which is a trend they have on each of their albums), but nothing here is "bad" to my ears, and I really enjoyed the direction this album took - so much so that I ended up seeing them live twice in 2017. Maybe I'm not critical enough on things I enjoy, but I tend to enjoy quite a few albums from this era that had some more electronic elements that some fans didn't seem to enjoy as much (Tame Impala's Currents comes to mind for example). I say if the music sounds good to you and is enjoyable, who cares? Shifts in musical direction can keep things interesting!

This is right up there on my personal list of underrated gems that deserve more attention. Keep in mind it's not a life changing masterpiece. It's still around an 8/10 (and maybe it can just barely push to a 9/10 when you find yourself listening to this in the exact perfect mood for the music to have maximum impact), but it is very enjoyable and probably deserves to be at least in the top 100 albums for this year, if not top 50. Those are my thoughts at least.
