I know the first album Cake is considered the best by most - it is cheery and has light fun jingly jangly guitars. Who couldn't love it? I however found out about this band when their 2nd album was being promoted - the decidedly much more introverted, mellow, and calm, "I've seen Everything." Given how much time I've spent with this music, I've got to rank it in my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Naturally I was disappointed their career fizzled with to Happy Pocket and a giant career gap until Weightlifting. For me, this album is their best - and one I thought on first listen it was good - but set it aside for a while only to really discover it a year later. It is hauntingly good.
