Un genial álbum de indie pop, que a la vez incorpora elementos de géneros como el janggle pop, dream pop y chamber pop, con una dialéctica general de presentar canciones emotivas, muy melódicas y tranquilas. Los arreglos de guitarra, los sintetizadores y en general la producción del álbum está muy pulida y cuidada, lo que hace de Weightlifting un punto muy destacable, incluso me recordó un poco a Travis, The Smiths y U2
Sin duda un álbum muy consistente, aunque los momentos más altos del álbum son:
"Welcome Back" la canción más orientada al rock.
"Got Carried Away" de las más tranquilas y emotivas.
"All The Dark Horses" con un interesante contraste entre lo animada que es el ritmo, con lo pasivo y tranquilo de las voces.
"Freetime" la canción con el mejor estribillo, de las más rockeras y sin duda, mi favorita del álbum.
"Usually" con un estilo Lo-Fi muy emocional y emotivo.
"It's a Miracle" de las más alegres y bailables.
"Leave Me Alone" Melodica y melancólica.
"Weightlifting" con geniales arpegios de guitarra y excelente manera de terminar el álbum.
Tal vez, el único aspecto negativo del álbum es que puede llegar hacer un poco empalagozo hacia el final, razón por la cual no le doy una calificación más alta.
Simple, catchy and highly enjoyable pop music, nothing too fancy or thought provoking. I wouldn't consider it significantly worse -if any- than the album released by Keane in the same year, they are rather close in terms of sound, even though the latter seems to take all the credit, not to mention this one has a slight Smiths-esque touch that never fails to put a smile on my face.
Though not necessarily their best, it is my favorite. There is a fullness, a completeness about this album, it gels (for me) into an identity.
