Among the best Hip Hop albums ever made. Criminally underrated. IMO, a stronger and more consistent (though not as commercial) response to "The Blueprint." "Ether," "One Mic," and "Rule" are all perfect songs. Very socially conscious and very consistent--I think there's only two filler songs. This album is a classic, maybe even a borderline masterpiece. It is somewhere around a 9.8, but since BEA doesn't offer that option, I give it a perfect 10/10!

After the sameness of the last three (two?) follow-ups to Illmatic, this one comes as a welcome surprise. I might not agree with his hyper-individualistic and populist rhetoric, but just like the pigeon on his cover he's here in the city and doesn't need my approval, and maybe he would act more like a dove if we didn't see a pigeon when we look at him.

Nas spends a good portion of this album claiming he hasn't fallen off since Illmatic, and by the end I'm not sure if he's trying to convince the listener or himself.
Ether - Best diss song ever!! One of Nas 3 good albums (Illmatic & It Was Written)
Good album. One of the first rap albums I bought. Could do without Smokin', it's the only weak track.
this album removed any and all doubts that nas isnt far superior to jay-z. nas was on the brink of rap purgatory until this album just blew peoples heads off. "one mic" is one of the greatest rap songs of all time. rewind is a crazy display of his raw writing skill while "rule" and "what goes around" contain some potent messages.
