What comes after the end of the world? Lift Yr Skinny Fists... expounded on the pervasive despair of F#A# by reframing the advent of the apocalypse as all the more reason to dare to hope, it's title a literal call for radical optimism. Expectations for their third record were high, but instead of pulling the narrative thread towards something that built on its predecessors, Yanqui... removes the human aspect entirely: no supermarket tannoy talk, no roadside interviews. The post-human vision of the apocalypse it offers foregoes any stylisation in favour of something that feels bleakly inevitable, the grainy still on album cover telling us all we need to know about what kind of future this album predicts for us.
