Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.8/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.6.

Despite some critics, this album has many sides and the overall tone is airy. The complex and hard rocking elements are there but not as straightforward and aggressive. TYA belongs to my favorite band league since 1973

A change of direction that the critics didn't like and nor did the record buying public. I also think it is one of their least impressive albums, and only their first and last (positive vibrations) albums rate lower in my opinion. All of their other albums are excellent.

Not their most ambitious record but probably their most popular. Listenable post 60's formula rock.

On the group's sixth album Ten Years After are trying to renew their sound and approach - primarily with spacey intros and outros and a more widespread use of the acoustic guitar. Generally, though, it is the familiar formula: a little bit of blues, a little bit rock 'n roll and a couple ballads.

With the acoustic guitar more in front, however, several of the songs start gently with the acoustic in the foreground, before the song gradually takes the more familiar form. This feature gives the album a lightness that is refreshing.

Alvin Lee is an excellent guitarist who, on this album, fortunately does not tend to play lenghty solos.

Lee is no great songwriter, but the album does contain quite successful compositions. "Here they come," "I'd Love to Change the World" and Hard Monkeys "(fine surprising chord changes here) stand out. Interesting is also "Over the Hill" which has received an unusual strings arrangement. Fine Mick Jagger-like vocals here.

"Let the Sky Fall" sounds like a re-working of "Good Morning Little School Girl", but otherwise this a fine track too.

"I've Been There Too" brings with its two chords change in the verses memories towards the Donovan classic "Season of the Witch".

Could well be considered as the group's most complete album.
