Like Hatful of Hollow or Stereolab's Switched On series, this is a compilation that needs to be heard as a vital part of their output, as it was released during the peak of their career, collecting songs or versions of songs not available on their studio albums, rather than a retrospective after the fact. The snippets of radio DJ's introducing the songs adds to the enjoyment of listening. The single He's Frank (slight return) which was covered in 2009 by The BPA Feat. Iggy Pop for a TV show theme tune is a stand-out, as is Avanti(ten don'ts for honeymooners) and Fun For All the Family. Or the John Peel session versions of Jet Set Junta or Ruling Class which are maybe a bit fresher, if underproduced, than the studio versions on Eligible Batchelors.
