Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 77.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

Oct20. I can see why the metal fans were back on board with this one. Right from the get-go we get the massive double kick drums, shredding guitars and Rob has his metal wail back. His wails were nowhere to be found on 'Redeemer of Souls' and I liked that. They are not too over the top here though, but it's still enough to put me off songs like 'Lightning Strike'.
At least the shorter, hard-hitting tracks are back. I quite like the riffs and verses of 'Evil Never Dies' and this is my favourite song here. The heavier riff of 'Never the Heroes' is also very cool. Is that Alice Cooper on 'Spectre' or just Rob doing more different vocals? There is a lot of classic metal all through the middle of this album. Being more a fan of the rock tracks, 'No Surrender' was my favourite after the brilliant start to the album.
I also liked that it was short. It made going into the last two tracks over 5 minutes a little easier. Of those, 'Lone Wolf' is a cracking song with another thick riff behind it and 'Sea of Red' is a very good song to finish with as it builds as it goes. Overall, a very satistying album. 3.5/5

I first listened to this thing when it came out. It was my first Judas Priest album and I thought it was great. 8/10.

I've since become a big fan of the band, and I've listened to most of their classic period albums. Top notch classic heavy metal. Last night I put this album on, and it blew my mind all over again. I think it might be one of their best albums with some of Rob's best vocals and songwriting to date. It's really heavy too, probably their heaviest album to date, including Painkiller. It's amazing to see a band accomplish something like this so late into their career.

Readjusting my score to a 9.5.

Judas Priest show that you can be exciting and relevant without changing a thing.

Another great comeback album from Judas Priest. Some additional hellish elements put this album over the top.

What an epic comeback! This is the greatest Judas Priest album since Painkiller! It's easily my favourite metal record of the 2010s!

Going to give this another couple full listens before scoring it, but already one of my favorite Priest albums. The main downfall here to me is that there is a good amount of cheese spread throughout the record, maybe more so than I've found in an average Priest album. However, the vocals, guitar solos, and drumming are top notch and the production is outstanding.
