This is the debut LP from Sanglorians, a chronically-underappreciated high-energy/high-gloss power-pop band from Los Angeles who invite comparisons to bands like Supergrass, Spacehog, Franz Ferdinand, and the Futureheads, only they sound bigger (and arguably more "produced") than all of them, almost to the point of bring prog-adjacent. So... "power-prog-punk"? Is that a possible new genre? No, of course not. I'm just not thinking of the right comparisons. They probably should have picked a better band name, too — "sanglorians" is too reminiscent of "midichlorians," which were a huge narrative disaster for the Star Wars franchise. Still, a pretty good album with some pretty good songs, especially if you like your clever synth, string, and vocal flourishes with a heavy dose of power chords along with them.
