Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a mean average rating of 78.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.6.

Probably the best prog metal album ever. Even if you don't like death growls there is still a ton to hear.

Lol 5/100, that guy hasn't listened to album. But really, it's easy to miss the beauty if you just look at the surface and think "death metal growls aren't for me".

I am not normally a huge fan of death vocals, but it so works with this album. My favourite song: Bleak

complaining about vocals lol. given the actual music (which there seems to be no complaints about), what sort of vocals do you believe would better accompany it? depussify yourself maybe?

Metal isn’t my thing but this sounds loud and angry. If metal is your thing check it out

A true prog classic in my opinion. Opeth's best along with Ghost Reveries.

I'm not a fan of the grungy growl vocals in any music, even though metal is probably my favorite genre. That is this album's biggest negative from me. Other than that one complaint this is a brilliant and solid piece. The instrumentals are beautiful and there are some awesome riffs in there. Favorite track: Dirge for November
