I loved it upon release, but it hasn't aged well. Some tracks are great, but the rest is really forgettable

Not a necessarily a bad record, but pretty underwhelming to be honest. The album has its moments here and there, but it just feels like Interpol isn't willing to take risks or try anything new. As a result, the sound can end up feeling a bit stale. It's a bit of a shame, since I do like Interpol. But again, the album is not all bad, and there are a few tracks that I thoroughly enjoy, such as "The Rover." I still think Interpol has potential to put out another great record, but to be honest, this does not live up to that potential. Don't mean to sound too negative, but these are just my thoughts after giving this multiple listens. Well, here's hoping for the next one!

If you ignore the context of Interpol's past, this is a solid record.

This album is so weirdly defiant. There's a bulk of the album that struggles to find any untouched ideas within the Interpol sound, often settling of esoteric songwriting instead of good songwriting. The best moments are when they're doing something entirely familiar, or something that actually feels like the band is trying to sound like anyone other than themselves. There's a strong start and a solid last leg, but ultimately, the record is bogged down by an anonymous middle.

This album is such a drag. those 45 minutes felt like well over an hour. safe, and uninspired.

Another comment used the word "safe". Can't think of a better way to describe it. Listenable but nothing new.

I love this bands debut album to absolute death, Antics is absolutely fantastic and consistent all throughout. They have plenty of tracks after those albums that solidify their place in the indie/post-punk scene. This album here is safe and lacks energy. After the first two tracks (the best ones imo) everything bleeds into one another due to shitty production and an unnecessary amount of reverb. It's listenable but disappointing and lacks any fresh and new ideas

The low-end, minimalist production is perhaps Marauder's greatest strength. It gives the album a wholly original sound, making it the band's most unique sounding record since 2007's Our Love to Admire.

The biggest issue is that the album cannot keep up the intensity established by the dance-punk lead single "The Rover." While the cuts focus on melodic atmospheres, it sacrifices hooks for, sometimes to a fault.

However, it's impressive that when their garage rock contemporaries have either been relegated to festival appearances (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), left garage rock.post-punk for genre exploration (Arctic Monkeys), or are all but disbanded (The Strokes), Interpol is still standing, making quality post-punk music in 2018.

From johnner
After being bitterly disappointed with El Pintor, I gave this album a chance, stupidly so. It is now obvious that Carlos did more than play the bass because each and every song is a tuneless dirge bereft of hooks or melody with Paul Banks barking the usual nonsensical rubbish he tries to pass off as lyrics.
That the band have reached a new low is an understatement. It is almost impossible to tell one song from another as they appear virtually identical in their ability to suck. Each song starts with a dry dessicated guitar riff which is repeated ad nauseum and then Paul Banks begins to “sing”. Please stop releasing this bilge, you’ve become an embarrassment.
