Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.9/100, a mean average of 70.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

The Stink EP is the least essential release from the Replacements before their breakup at the turn of the 90s. While their debut was snotty but solid, Stink is a step back. It shows a band that is looking to find it's footing, something beyond its hardcore punk origins. The band would further develop a distinctly ragged but heartfelt sound on subsequent releases during the rest of the decade.

Not recommended.

The blink and you'll miss it 'Stink' EP follows on from 1981's 'Sorry Ma ' with 5 of the 9 tracks clocking in at under 2 minutes

This EP contains some of the funniest track titles compiled on the one release: "Fuck School" , "White And Lazy" , "Dope Smokin' Moron" (which contains the classic line "Hey, Merle, I was wonderin'... if ya had any 'ludes on ya?" - LUDES being slang for a Quaalude ) & "Staples In Her Stomach" which is found on the extended edition

'Stink' is particularly notable as it contains the slower "Go" which is the first time we hear Westerberg roll out a conventional rock track giving us a small glimpse into their future

The expanded edition contains 4 extra tracks , the previously mentioned "Staples In Her Stomach" , the Hank Williams cover "Hey Good Lookin'" , a "Rock Around The Clock" cover that ultimately changes the lyrics to "We're gunna STINK around the clock tonite , stink / stink / stink .." & finally a rough Westerberg solo acoustic demo of a track called "Your Getting Married" where we again get a glimpse into the future with a track that hearkens to gems such as "Here Comes The Original " and "Skyway"

Stink may be the forgotten Replacements release but there is enough here to see they were a band on the rise
