Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.5/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Post-hardcore is a genre I have never really gotten into properly and albums relying heavily on the tropes of that genre tend to be rated low by me. Biffy Clyro's first three albums are closer to post-.hardcore than their later alternative rock albums, and The Vertigo of Bliss is one of them. While better structured and produced than their debut, Biffy Clyro's second album features a lot of messy songs, ambiguous lyrics and overlong tracks that drag down the enjoyment of the record somewhat. Many of the songs, while totally fine, remain pretty forgettable. That being said, the vocals are fine and there is some interesting guitar play on several tracks, like "The Ideal Height" and "Liberate The Illiterate/A Mong Among Mingers". Biffy Clyro also offers some surprising twists in sound, like on the powerful yet vulnerable "Diary of Always".
The single standout song is "Questions and Answers", a song that doesn't seem to fit the album in terms of its sound, yet is a very basic infectious rock song. Most songs are average at best, with a few turds here and there.
Biffy's second album it's without a doubt an amazing, totally powerful and memorable listen... Although in my opinion it's the band's least good record, I still love almost every bit from it... The only problems with it are it's structure... As a whole sometimes it's quite messy, and some tracks are, sincerely, a bit forgettable...
"Eradicate the Doubt" and "A man of his appaling posture", despite being good tracks, are from the most forgettable of Biffy's catalogue. Nevertheless, it's a totally fun ride... and this comes from a guy that hates Post-Hardcore and it's screams... Biffy just has "something"...
Best Track(s): With Aplomb, Toys toys toys choke toys toys toys, Now the action is on fire! (The last one being the best, in my opinion).
Worst Track: Eradicate the Doubt
I can hear traces of what was to come on Only Revolutions and Opposites here.
Questions and Answers is Biffy's best track!
