Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 76.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

Two banging openers. Drops off a bit on side two but still a quality album
Sonically and rhythmically a very monotonous album at places.
tremendous sound. need more than one listen
Perhaps the least well regarded of their first four albums, I have a soft spot for Porcupine, and I certainly like it more than Heaven Up Here.
Plus, ‘The Cutter’ was the best song on their first three albums, that is a belief that I will hold until I die.
Even after multiple listens, this doesn't really interest me at all.
The weakest of Echo and The Bunnymen's first four albums, but it's still a solid album in its own right. "The Back of Love" is a kickass song.
Good album, just not quite as great as Heaven up here or Ocean Rain. All songs are good, but nothing really spectacular.
While Ocean Rain gets all of the attention, Porcupine is not far off from being just as grand a statement for Echo & The Bunnymen. The title track is as epic as anything they ever released.
Not a bad track on it. Another great Bunnymen record!
The Cutter and The Back of Love are exceptional, brilliant album overall.
