Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 4% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 79.4/100, a mean average of 77.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.1/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.2.

Ocean Rain is a masterpiece, and I count Crocodiles as an excellent record as well. Many great singles too, with one of their best, Never Stop (Discotheque), not even showing up on this site. Guitar work is simple but effective in a Joy Division kind of way, while the drumming shines (The Back of Love stands out).

Anyone curious, I'd say start with the big hit singles and if those catch your ear, then there's lots more to find digging deeper in the catalog.

Fun music, cryptic lyrics, unique voice = under-rated 80s band. Deserved greater widespread appreciation.

As others have said, one of the finest & most underrated bands of the 80s. They were definitely a stronger act than U2, and Ian McCulloch had a wonderfully dramatic voice. Will Sergeant's guitar style is unique & always stimulating, and Lee Pattinson and Pete de Freitas made a really good rhythm section. Anything that Echo & The Bunnymen did in the 80s is A-OK with me.

Without Echo & The Bunnymen, it's hard to imagine The Arcade Fire existing. This band never got the respect they deserved. As Secondsoul said, they belong in the ranks of The Smiths, The Cure and R.E.M.

Definitely up there with The Smiths,The Cure and R.E.M. as one of the best 80s guitar bands
