'Deserted Songs' digs into the Mercury Rev archives with a collection of outtakes , demos and embryonic versions of songs from the 'Deserter’s Songs' sessions plus a handful of tracks that didn't make the final album ("A Soft Kiss For Waking Up" , "Looking Back Now" , "Judging By The Moon" and "Night On Panther Mountain")
Word of warning , most of these tracks are VERY raw and rustic having been recorded on a cassette tape or 8 Track Reel To Reel and feels more like a bootleg than an official release
For me the most interesting track here was the inclusion of THE 1989 cassette version of "Goddess On A Hiway" that became such an iconic song ( and to think it was almost not included on 'Deserters Songs')
I'm a huge fan of 'Deserters Songs' but even I struggle to recommend this release . If your a mega fan okay go for it other wise there's plenty of other great stuff to listen to
