Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The sexuality is a bit gone on this record. Still, it’s great synthpop. A bit too polished maybe, but it’s named after a godess after all.
Passable electropop, but quite bland really, I mean even the lead single has the audacity to rip her 2004 single "I Believe in You" off. She's done much better.
It's decent
I got a long while before I finish up her discography. However, I find this album not only in my top 3 for her but also one of the best albums of 2010 and of the decade. Just love this synthetic opus.
Kylie Minogue's "Aphrodite" is most comparable to its predecessor "X"; with the exclusion of a few impressive singles, this record is a stream of decent dance-pop songs that never amounts to anything more than a "nice attempt".
As always with her 21st century output (excluding the impressive "Body Language"), Kylie plays it safe and the record dutifully pumps out the catchy, pleasant dance-pop. The formula works, and the record gains commercial success just like the rest of them, but it feels increasingly soulless. Even some tracks on "X" had interesting production ("In My Arms"), whereas Aphrodite's lead single, for example, sounds like a rehash of "I Believe In You". It's alright, but nothing more.
Get Outta My Way is a chart topper great song. Over time though the album has grown on me and I think this is one of her better efforts.
A solid Kylie effort. She's still got it.
