Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.4/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

New album's coming out, so of course I had to revisit. As has been shown by science, our music taste is mostly set at 14-15, and I got into AM at that time, so regardless of what objective quibbles I might have with their music, they will forever be close to my heart. What I didn't expect was that this might turn out to be my favourite album of the bunch - Alex's lyrics are frequently gorgeous and poetic; songs like Piledriver Waltz and Love is a Laserquest are some of the best things he's ever written, lyrically speaking. The band also crafts some very pretty music to go along with these lyrics, and it's a solid straight through listen, if one can get past the occasional lazy rock tune like Brick by Brick and (arguably) Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair.

Some more great tunes on this album. A slight change of tone from previous 3 albums but it's still unmistakably them. My highlights are That's Where You're Wrong, She's Thunderstorms and Shalalala.

It siginfies a welcome change of pace. It starts off somewhat slow, but it picks up momentum after the middle. The self titled track is one of their best.

It took some time to come back to this album, but I really like it! I feel like it is dripping with sunshine and beach vibes, sort of like Weezer's White Album. The chimey guitars and appropriate background singing echo some aspects of Beach House's overall feel and can border psychedelic pop rock in the best way. Turner's songwriting digs deeper as he finds more complex ways to sing love songs, and Nick O'Malley's bass really shines on songs like Reckless Serenade, That's Where You're Wrong, and Love Is A Laserquest.

This album is not without it's duds, and the singles released are in company of some of the absolute worst Arctic Monkeys songs. Brick by Brick is abysmal, Black Treacle is a dumb metaphorical themed song, and Don't Sit Down is just a lazy excuse to fill 3 1/2 minutes. I think the band expanded on this uninspiring writing and sound to create AM (at least most of that album). But pretty much every other song on this album is either good or great! It doesn't quite meet the highs that the first two albums met, but it's pretty solid!

Best Tracks: Reckless Serenade, Piledriver Waltz, Love Is a Laserquest, That's Where You're Wrong

The back half of this album is light years better than the front half. "Brick by Brick", "Black Treacle", and "Don't Sit Down..." should be B-sides. Those songs really ushered the way for the anemic AM. But basically the rest of the album is a nice, summer-soaked dream-rock record! The closer is probably in my Top 10 for them and "Piledriver Waltz" is like the sad brother to "R U Mine?" with Turner's lyricism.

I really like this album ! I think it’s better than Humbug and at least on the same level as Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Brick by Brick is easily their worst track ever, but the rest of the record is pretty strong. In fact, I like all the other songs. The guitar doesn’t sound like usual, and I kinda like its new refreshing sound.

Standout tracks : She’s Thunderstorms, Don’t Sit Down Cause I’ve moved your chair, Suck It and See.
Personal favourite: The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala

The best AM album, although the middle is a bit off. Great opening and an amazing finish. Pretty much a masterpiece from Reckless Serenade to That´s Where You're Wrong

Don't let the Brick by Brick memes and a few bland alt rock tracks fool you this album has some pretty great Smiths esque jangly indie pop
