Diamond Hill is Butch Hancock's third album, and his most polished effort up to that date. Where "West Texas Waltzes" focused on stripped down songs, "Wind's Dominion" was a drawn-out double album with cluttered short-story songs and strange arrangements. "Diamond Hill" is a refreshing change of pace that expands Hancock's rugged sound with an appropriate amount of studio production. The result is a melodic, accessible album, but something is missing, perhaps a lack of memorable songs that you must listen to more than once. "Eats Away the Night," his 1995 album, would be the accessible record with some good memorable songs.
