Given the time, and the fact that she kept busy with various appearances on other people's albums, I was beginning to wonder if she'd ever put out another of her own. What she's finally given us is an incredibly sparse and quiet record. Long-time partner David Rawlings really shines on this one, with every song containing a meandering guitar flourish. And Gillian is, as ever, a master lyricist. (Edited)
This is probably Gillian's least good album, and a slightly disappointment after such a long wait between releases, but it's still a fantastic collection of songs, and would be a high point for almost any other songwriter.

This is supposed to be her best album since "time (the revelator)" -- too bad i don't have that other one, because this album is pretty nice in telling its its rootsy-alt-country, americana story. Between this and her accompanying vocals on this year's decemberists album, she's had quite the year.
