Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 75.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

This is the where they started to expand their sound and style and it upped their game in my opinion. There were the bangers, but many tracks also oozing a hypnotic serenity. It was from this album they became the undisputed kings of electronic music

Not up to Dig Your Own Hole, but still contains some great stuff. Some of the tracks are a bit too repetitive and annoying (eg. Under The Influence). I really like Music:Response though. Also Hey Boy Hey Girl, Out of Control and Let Forever Be. Enjoyed the Hope Sandoval feature on Asleep From Day too - it really worked (like Where Do I Begin on Dig Your Own Hole)

The Chemical Brothers doing what The Chemical Brothers do best – melodic, collaboration-heavy, big beat anthems. Dance music for the living room as well as the discotheque.

You first have to bear through four annoying tracks and one bad Ian Curtis impersonator to get to a track that's actually good. Since their masterpiece Dig Your Own Hole they've been trying to put more melody, psychedelicness and positivity/quirkiness in their music, which I respect a lot, but a lot of the attempts have been very cringy or confusing. The only track where they really succeeded to not repeat themselves succesfully is "Asleep From Day". Other than that is "Let Forever Be" also a standout track, but it could be an alternate take of "Setting Sun".

I do respect this album being a foward thinking album in 1999. With it's groove and psychedelic music. As well being a meticulous record. But most songs have parts that I am not keen on. To the point where I get annoyed. I do hope I enjoy the album way more than I do at this moment of time. But as of now I just feel this record is just decent.

The overall rank is a high surprise ! Personnally I put it on my Top 30. it'a very good work, well-designed and properly structured with many contributions (Noel Gallagher, New Order, Mazzy Star, Mercury Rev). It was innovative in 1999. For me, the reference in what I call "electrorock".

I will admit that this album can sound a little too synthetic when you're not in the mood, but when you are it's an otherworldly experience!
