Yeah I’ve been a huge fan of these guys since crashing into our consciousness in 2016 with the excellent breakthrough release ‘Hills End’ and then backing it up with the even better ’For Now’ (2018)
2020’s ‘ The Glow’ isn’t terrible by any stretch but it’s definitely a step or two behind its predecessors in terms of song quality and those infectious DMA melodies we know and adore. Clearly the band have gone for a more commercial feel with deep techo beats not heard before on tracks such as “Life Is A Game Of Changing”, and “Cobracain” but the DMA blueprint remains with some great tracks ( “ Criminals” and “Strangers” which sounds suspiciously like New Orders “Hellbent”), some ok tracks and some stinkers to pad things out ( I’m of course referring to “ Life is a Game”, “Round and Around “ and closer “ Cobracain” )
We expect some hit and miss with any DMA album unfortunately ‘The Glow’ misses more than it hits
