This album is a cacophony of joy. Guitars, horns and, "lobotomy beats", you can hear the influences talking over each other like drunk students solo cups in hand at some epic party. Nicotine and Gravy is a highlight towards the end it is punctuated by a James Brown snare onto a Stevie Wonder clavichord and finally to a transcendental electric sitar. Beck's nonsensical lyrics are off putting to some (hot dogs no doze hot sex in back rows) but perfect for an album which wants to be nothing but fun, almost to the point of parody with its closer Debra. No party mix is complete without one track from this album.

I love it... Beck at his most funky. He's feeling confident after Odelay and Mutations, and he lets fly on this one. Debra is a classic, and Nicotine and Gravy, Sexx Laws, Peaches and Cream are all ace tracks. This should be much higher ranked. One of his best.
"Rubber Soul" and the best of whichever sensitive singer you prefer (Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens, Bob Marley) are close . . . but this might be the single greatest get-you-laid album ever made.
Incredibly underrated album. Was panned upon release, but time has been kind to this album. It's Beck's Prince album. Highlights are Mixed Bizness and Debra.
Every now and then you've got to stop worrying about shit, not think too hard and have a bit of fun.....and this is what this albums like for me. May not be Becks best, or indeed my favourite but when I don't want to have to concentrate too hard this is one I enjoy listening to.
