Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 69.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.8.

Just plain punk with a cleaner and better playing twist.
Unfairly maligned. This sees The Jam move on from punk and their own sound emerge. It may be their weakest album but it's still good
This is the modern world, was the lightning quick follow up to debut album, in the city. In truth, they maybe should have waited a little longer to record this LP as it falls short of the quality on that first record. The band just don't sound as inspired with only, life from a window, one of the few good tracks. The cover of, in the midnight hour, is enjoyable, but some songs like, London traffic, are poor. Easily The Jam's weakest album.
Not nearly as bad as it's painted, although Foxton's lack of songwriting ability is cruelly exposed. However, some great angry songs such as 'In the street today" and "This is the modern world".
Not their best. Paul had a bit of writer's block during this period and the songs he came up with were under par. A transition album for The Jam.
