Holy cow this is an awesome album. Not the Destroyer I'm used to. Much earlier sound, more like Velvet Underground meets indie rock? Somewhat Dylan plus some Bowie musically? Mountain Goats? Whatever it is, it's fantastic!
My favorite Destroyer album - it's sound is more simple and stripped down compared to other destroyer albums. There are a lot of classics like "The Very Modern Dance", "Sublimation Hour", "Farrar, Strouse, and Giroux", "Virgin with a Memory", and both the Streethawk songs. A lot of funny lines as well, and wit. And references to other artists. You'll listen for the music as well as the lyrics.
Best pop album since If You're Feeling Sinister.
