Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 76.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.5.

What a beautifully dark and atmospheric album that is extremely engrossing and really drags you into the record through the use of mostly just instrumentation. The sound feels so rich and grand yet full of suspense and foreboding. They are fantastic at stirring up emotions in the listener whilst also giving us plenty of twists and turns to keep us thoroughly entertained throughout the run time. The more atmospheric and powerful songs are where this album truly shines with them coming mostly in the form of the longest tracks. The three tracks that are the peak of this album for me are 100 Years Of Choke, Bless Yourself Bleed and The Octuple Personality And Eleven Crows with the latter being just simply outstanding in terms of its musical quality. All three songs never fail to move me and make me feel emotions ranging from awe and blissfulness to feeling tense and on edge. They do this through the phenomenal use of varied instrumentation which are all performed to an extremely high degree of quality. It is tough to even pick a few just to give a special mention to but the ones that truly stand out to me are the piano, acoustic guitar, violins and horn section. They all make this album feel so alive and give it personality making it such a unique listen. I really struggle to think of an album similar to this one in terms of atmosphere and style and any I do think of are never done to this very high level. Overall, this record is stunning and the more you allow yourself to fall into the album the more and more you will see the phenomenal display of musicianship and marvel at how good it really is.
Too many sound effects, not enough focus.
Criminally under rated
The Octuple Personality and Eleven Crows is astonishingly beautiful. Phenomenal track on an already great album, definitely worth checking out.
I very much enjoyed this one. Has something running through it. Playful, stormy, lauching from one thing into another. Sounds like an album for a special time and place. Album cover works greatly with the sound too.
As if I needed more proof that 2007 was the best year for music ever.
