Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.9/100, a mean average of 67.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.1.

So early 80s new romantic synths, kinda good but forgettable.. Only the first track can be considered as a banger

Solid new wave album with a couple absolute bangers, but you know that they've got real heat on the way.

It's a decent debut album, obviously it pales in comparison to the later albums, but everybody has to start somewhere! It's got a stone cold pop classic hit single "Talk Talk" and a couple of really good tunes - "Today" & "Mirror Man" which are worthy of a place on a compilation. It's also got some stinkers that are never going to be good songs in a million years, and are put to death by the unsympathetic production. The story is well known that EMI forced them into sounding like Duran Duran at the time, the sour beginning of a frustrating and ultimately futile relationship. Altogether it's an uneven unsteady record with occasional moments worthy of the reputation made later.
