Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.1/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.2.

Love that voice. Side A of the LP is great, the other side solid
Talk Talk's artistic ambitions get ahead of their songwriting abilities on It's My Life. Mark Hollis and co. would eventually go on to write some amazing pieces of music, but I always feel like skipping this album except for the title track.
Great and amazing album with beautiful voice of Mark Hollis
Best track: "Such A Shame"
Weakest track: "Renee"
Boasted a trio of powerful art-pop songs in Such a Shame, It's My Life, and Renee. Marillion meets Peter Gabriel. Fantastic stuff - and a sign of great things to come.
An excellent album. I have only got into Talk Talk recently. Bought this on new vinyl. 'Such a Shame', Tomorrow Started' and 'It's My Life' are my favourite tracks. I love the blend of subtle synth washes which accentuate the amazing voice of Mark Hollis.
An album full of strong straightforward pop songs, they now stripped away the Duran Duran synthesiser sound and a sense of urgency replaced it in the performances. The production (the first with Tim Friese-Greene) is sympathetic and he lets them wig out a bit on side 2. You can start to tell that some kind of intelligence is at work in this band here...
the most uninspired work from talk talk - is it due to or because of the two chart crashing killers on it?
this is the original such a shame on here I reckon, it has been covered many times after.
The title track is classic new wave energy. The rest of the album isn't as good. But not that bad either.
