Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.1/100, a mean average of 67.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.3.

As Pop Music belonged to U.S. artists in the 1950s and the 70s, there was already so much good British ans Irish music around in the 1960s and 80s that a lot of talented U.S. outfits failed to make the grade. Huey Lewis and his band are a good example. They made some good music which enjoyed great commercial success on home ground but made few waves in Britain or other foreign pastures

It's pretty funny that like half of these comments are American Psycho references, but it should be noted that Fore! is a pretty rad album in its own right even separated from the source material (after all, Duke--Genesis--is a total piece of crap and that album was celebrated just as much as Fore! in the book).

The first half of this album is really strong, especially Stuck With You, a sweet song about contentment, and Pat Bateman's fave, Hip to Be Square, which IS a masterpiece. Where Fore! loses steam is in the second half as the band runs out of hits and dedicates actual album real estate to experiments like Naturally (in-character, but still out of place) and I Never Walk Alone which feels so derivative and unnecessary at this point in the band's career that if it completely ceased to exist it wouldn't feel like anything was even missing.

A nice compliment to News, a little more mature, but slightly less fun overall.

In '86, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I also have the European version of this album with 'Power of Love'. A great pop rock album with a feel good factor. Remember listening to this on the radio when on the way back from the beach on a balmy summer evening. Back in the days when the most difficult decision I had to make was which shirt to wear to the nightclub!

This is one of those instances when an artist was able to follow-up a smash hit album and replicate all the components for nearly as good of an album. Huey Lewis and the boys come back with more singalong pop/rock melodies again adding their flourishes of horns and harmonica. My rating (and ranking) reflects the european version including "the power of love"; with this fun, rockin' soundtrack theme to "back to the future", this might be better than "Sports"!
