Sebastopol is the debut solo record by Jay Farrar, following the hiatus of his band Son Volt once their contract with Warner Brothers expired.

Sebastopol is Farrar's most experimental record as far as production goes. Unfortunately, the choice of material is pretty forgettable and devoid of melodic hooks or any real emotional connection. All we have are musical sketches that could have become real songs had Farrar chose to collaborate with a backing ensemble.

Personally, I prefer Farrar's other record, Terroir Blues, which was reissued as Dogtown Sessions, to this one.

Not recommended.

A-Side: Barstow
B-Side: Feed Kill Chain
