Terroir Blues, the second solo studio album by Jay Farrar, is often prematurely dismissed. As for its flaws, the record is too long, there are several "space junk" noise interludes, at least four duplicated tracks, and Farrar's absolute worst song Fool King's Crown.
Flaws aside, this is one of Farrar's finest sets of songs. Had he recorded with a good backing band, it would be one of the top albums by Jay Farrar or his band Son Volt.
This record was condensed and reissued as Terroir Blues: The Dogtown Sessions, and it presents the meat of this record with most of the flaws removed.
Recommended.
