"The Past is a Grotesque Animal" changed my perception of reality. Also it made me violently move my body parts in a rhythmic fashion. Also it's a fantastic song. (Edited)

Chemical imbalances and glam rock sure go together nice. On "hissing fauna", kevin barnes battles his personal demons and comes out on the other end of the album as "Georgie Fruit", a black man in his 40s who has been through multiple sex changes. Okay.... This is what Prince would've sounded like if he was born 10 years earlier, hooked on anti-depressants and david bowie. This guy's ideas are OUT THERE, and the songs benefit beautifully by his unique perspective. Kevin is pleading with his inner self to feel better ("come on mood shift, shift back to good again") relying on drugs ("Chemicals, don't flatten my mind / Chemicals, don't mess me up this time") to endure. (One can easily be left with the impression that these guys do a lot of drugs, esp. based on their live show.) "grolandic edit" is such a pretty song, especially the harmonies, with the narrator confused and almost despondent looking for answers singing "I guess it would be nice to give my heart to a God / But which one, which one do I choose? / All the churches filled with losers, psycho or confused". His mind is so warped and the album is so beautiful in contrast, both his most challenging AND accessible album.

The Past is a grotesque animal was quite good but the rest failed to grab me, at least on my first listen. (Edited)

This subtle mix between funky electronics and 60's pop is very close to perfection.

Just love this guys... it's like a very weird and 21th century-esque version of the Beatles. They really can craft great albums.
